The special title of this cd is a reference to the great exhibition of Vermeer’s works in the Pallazo Fava of Bologna in 2014, and where the painting of famous mysterious girl with the pearl earring was the iconic teaser. Only one street from the Pallazzoone can find the impressive collection of historical instruments by Fernando Tagliavini in the Museo San Colombano. Curator and musician Liuwe Tamminga came up with the idea of recording music from the time of Vermeer on some of these well restored instruments. As usual in his many recordings, Tamminga succeeds in assembling compositions around thematic unities and gathers some musician friends around him to make the picture even more interesting. One can even listen to the late Jaap Schröder – one of the pioneers of the early music stage in the Netherlands – on this cd on what might even be his very last recording.
Also Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini and Peter Van Heyghen offer us some fascinating moments of the Music from the Low Countries at the time of Vermeer, performing Sweelinck, van Eyck, Schop and Reinken.
