Artists: José Pizarro, David Aijon
Composer: Robert Schumann
José Pizarro and David Aijón, because of the chosen instrument and their interpretative approach, show us a very different Schumann from the norm these days, but possibly closer to how this music might have sounded during the composer’s lifetime: less concert-like and markedly intimate and domestic, quite distant from modern sounds and manners and, therefore pleasingly and revealingly historical. Beside the Liederkreis op.24 and op. 39, respectively on poems by Heinrich Heine and Joseph von Eichendorf, David Aijón performs marvellously some solo pieces from Schumann’s Bunte Blätter on a Graf pianoforte made my Paul McNulty.
