It’s not a symphonie or a string Quartet in this new recording by the Belgian ensemble il Gardellino, but a brilliant work from the young Beethoven: an Oktet for wind players that he wrote around 1792/1793. Beethoven would arrange it later for string Quintet as his opus 4. In the same recording Arthur Schoonderwoerd joins Marcel Ponseele and his colleagues for a captivating and refreshing version of the piano quintet op. 16.
