Lambert Colson and InAlto Ensemble take us on a journey of discovery of the cornet repertoire in Rome between 1500 and 1700. It is difficult to imagine how popular this instrument was in all genres and how its virtuosos were adored like singers and violinists. Rome had two instrumental ensembles: trombetti for outdoor events and piffari for indoor music.
Here we follow in the footsteps of composers active in Rome, such as Josquin des Prez or the organist Girolamo Frescobaldi, who contributed to giving the cornet a diversified repertoire often based on popular themes worked in elaborate counterpoint.
