Two significant events sparked the rise of its music scene: the marriage of Margaret of Parma and Ottavio Farnese, and the granting of the title of Duke of Parma to Ottavio’s father, Pier Luigi. At the Farnese court, Flemish musicians like Cipriano de Rore, Josquin Persoens, and Gottfried Palmarts made a name for themselves, influencing the development of instrumental music and contributing to the genre of madrigals.
