Where do you live?
Between Weimar and Madrid, but always touring 🙂

Why did you start playing music?
Because of my father, and because I was dancing from a very early age.

What is your favourite instrument?
The violin and the organ.

What music did you listen to as a child?
Classical and rock.

What was your first record?
Tschaikowsky Swansee.

What musical period would you like to live in?
In 1610 and in 1910.

Where do you prefer to listen to music?
Everywhere. Actually, it is always sounding inside me…

Where can we find you when you are not making music?
Jogging, in nature, reading in a nice place.

Where did you study?
Everywhere where I can close the door.

What awards have you received?
Several, and I am grateful… but Bartók said: “Competitions are for horses, not artists.”

Who is your favourite composer?
Too many: Monteverdi, Marini, Biber, Bach, Beethoven, Ravel, Bartók, David Bowie…

Which composer would you like the public to rediscover?
Samuel Friedrich Capricornus.

What is your first recording?
Jacquet de la Guerre Sonatas.

What is your favourite recording? (Passacaille, with you)
The Beethoven Sonatas.

What is your favourite Passacaille recording? (Passacaille, other artist)
Forqueray Le Diable.

Who do you dream of recording with? (realistic or not)
With Peter Gabriel.

Which piece have you never recorded but would like to?
So many.

What do you do before a concert?
Sleep 1 to 2 hours if I can.

What do you do after a concert?
Drink a beer with the colleagues.

What would you do if you were not a musician?
Astronomer.

We are very lucky, in such a world as today’s, so different from our métier, to have found a space for us musicians to live from music.
